Research Technician: As a research associate/technician of Ecovative Design LLC., you will be expected to perform a multitude of laboratory duties at a high level of performance on a consistent basis. You will be expected to exhibit the following attributes: an understanding of the scientific method; basic laboratory skills and aseptic technique; excellent data recording skills and analysis; ability to work in a team and individually; strong and effective communication skills; solid organizational and preparation skills; possess and use critical thinking skills; willingness to perform many different tasks in different areas of operation; acute interest in laboratory work and company atmosphere/environment.

Duties of a Research Technician:
• Preparing and sterilizing various types of media for laboratory and production use
• Preparing and sterilizing several different substrata for laboratory and production use
• Maintaining laboratory cleanliness
o Washing glassware
o Participating in laboratory cleanups
o Performing maintenance on equipment
• Conducting experiments
o Introducing new ideas for experiments
o Thinking critically on how to improve upon new or existing experiments and laboratory procedures
o Performing experiment write-ups
o Performing observations and data recording on experiments
o Making conclusions on experiments
• Organization of laboratories
o Maintaining stock cultures for short-term and long-term use
o Organization of experiments
o Preparation of laboratory duties/experiments to be performed in the future
• Managing laboratory supplies
o Taking inventory of consumables
o Placing orders for consumables
o Ordering new equipment
• Working in conjunction with other laboratory personnel and other personnel on many different levels of operation
• Various other duties that extend beyond the laboratory

Necessary Skills for working in laboratory:
• Understanding of clean room environment
• Ability to work under a laminar flow hood and biological safety cabinet
• Understanding of basic techniques:
o Tissue culturing
o Light Microscopy
o Aseptic technique
o Quality control techniques
• Excellent computer skills and knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing
o Microsoft and Apple (desired)

Work Related Expectations:
• A research technician is expected to possess a bachelor's degree in mycology, biology, environmental science or related field from an accredited university. Experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree
• Availability to work weekends occasionally
• Ability to follow instructions in addition to independent work
• Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced environment
• Eagerness to make a difference
