Systems Specialist

The New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NYSCADV) is a statewide advocacy organization committed to the goal of providing services to women who are abused and their children and eradicating domestic abuse and promoting broad social change through advocacy, education, public awareness and program development.

Primary Responsibility:

The Systems Specialist is the primary liaison for criminal and civil justice policy and training projects.

Duties:

The Systems Specialist will:

• Liaise with domestic violence programs, county and state agencies, and national organizations regarding criminal and civil justice; attend regular and ad hoc policy meetings with members and systems; and, implement statewide projects designed to improve the criminal and civil justice response to domestic violence;

• Provide technical assistance to local, state, and national representatives, including criminal and civil justice systems, state agencies, domestic violence programs and organizations, and other relevant stakeholders;

• Present at local, state and national conferences on topics pertaining to criminal and civil justice, and develop curriculum and training and educational materials to improve criminal and civil justice response to domestic violence;

• Coordinate internal criminal and civil justice systems materials and processes, including creating and updating criminal and civil justice systems material for the NYSCADV website, writing criminal and civil justice systems articles and updates for NYSCADV publications; and supervise civil and criminal justice systems interns and volunteers;

• Research and develop position papers, documents and resource/educational materials;

• Fulfill all requirements associated with the Grants to Encourage Arrest Policies contract, and prepare all additionally required NYSCADV reports;

• Assist with existing NYSCADV projects and programs;

• Travel necessary, reliable transportation required.


Qualifications:
NYSCADV seeks a highly organized and experienced professional who has experience in a domestic violence and/or sexual assault services program, but prior experience with Women's Movement and/or feminist issues will be considered. The position requires strong public speaking, written and oral communication skills, computer and database skills, as well as detail oriented and organized, demonstrated team-building and problem-solving expertise. The position requires a commitment to: NYSCADV's Mission Statement and Principles of Practice; and social justice, anti-oppression and non-violence.

Demonstrate expertise in the following areas:

Demonstrates awareness of own biases and recognizes the ways in which they are different from others. Continually develops the ability to share those differences in a nonjudgmental way. Adjusts own style to effectively communicate across cultural boundaries. Fluent with a working knowledge of norms and expectations as it applies to communicating with others at work.

• Building Relationships - Understands relationship-based cultures and builds diverse relationships to achieve innovative/creative approaches to work. Techniques include outreach, creating strategic alliances, community building, networking, partnering, team building, giving and receiving feedback, and bridging differences with effective communication.

• Resourcefulness - Thinks strategically and makes good decisions under pressure, maintains focus and intensity, remains optimistic and persistent, and demonstrates strong organizational skills.

• Communication - Inspires others to invest resources in establishing and maintaining best practices, ensures the flow of information within NYSCADV and to our community partners, creates an atmosphere of trust, openness and inclusivity, treats others in a fair and ethical manner, and is an expert listener, communicator, and facilitator, and demonstrates strong written skills;
